Holy Trinity CofE Primary School

Art & Design

At Holy Trinity we believe art is an integral part of our pupil’s education which engages and challenges all our pupils and embodies some of the highest forms of human creativity.

Art

We know that art can guide our pupils in finding and developing their own voice and opinions, as well as a sense of escapism which provides them with the opportunity to see the world around them in a different light to the everyday.

To tap into our pupil’s creativity and truly unlock their potential, we strive to provide outstanding opportunities to explore a broad spectrum of art from classical masters to the modern and contemporary.

The focus of our arts curriculum is to develop proficiencies in drawing, painting, colour theory, shade and sculpture, therefore equipping pupils with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art. Alongside these skills we will develop children’s knowledge of a range of artists and designs, their critical awareness and ability to critic their own work as well as the work of others. Pupils will learn how art and design both reflects and shapes our history, and that it contributes to the culture, creativity and wealth of our nation.

Design and Technology

Art

Design and Technology (DT) encourages children to learn, to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Holy Trinity, children have planned opportunities to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. During which, they must consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. This gives the learning purpose and relevance to the children.

We aim to link work to other disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. The DT Curriculum includes opportunities to explore designs and designers throughout history, enabling children to critically reflect upon and evaluate their own designs.
